Rugby - Premiership Rugby 7s Series, South Africa

With a million Rand for the winning team and another million to a skilled and lucky fan, you just can’t miss the inaugural NBM 7s Premier League (7sPL) international rugby tournament in George, South Africa, on 14 and 15 December 2012.

Sixteen star-studded teams – 11 commercial teams and the South African Super franchises (Stormers, Bulls, Lions, Cheetas & Sharks) – will play 44 spectacular world class games in this world first, SARU-endorsed tournament that will see the winners walk away with R1-million. A qualifying spectator can also win R1-million in a goal kicking competition.

Some of the world’s best current and past sevens and 15-format players will run onto the field for their franchises, offering spectators a unique opportunity to see top class rugby in an intimate and picturesque setting.

Boasting legendary atmosphere and a fantastic view of the Outeniqua Mountains, the 7sPL at Outeniqua Park guarantees an unforgettable rugby experience that transcends beyond the game.

Each commercial team will boast at least one international sevens rugby ‘icon’ player as well as a 15s-format rugby international ‘legend’ player. Rugby superstars Quade Cooper and Shane Williams have already confirmed participation as well as some of South Africa's best 7s players ever – such as Brent Russell, Fabian Juries and Stefan Basson. National sevens coach Paul Treu will also nominate about 30 new players that he may have identified during the past year in professional competitions, to be included in the various teams in the tournament.

The excitement starts way ahead of the tournament with the 7sPL Side Show, which includes an array of activities and entertainment for young and old. Confirmed events so far include player signing sessions, the Miss 7sPL competition, a celebrity golf tournament, VIP gala evenings and a street parade through the streets of George. A children’s programme will be run in a fun and secure environment.
